Monolithos castle

Castle of Monolithos was one of the four main castles of Rhodes, built in the 14th century by the Knights to have control of the sea and to protect the inhabitants from pirate raids. Situated on a cliff 236 metres high, rises imposingly over the coast and dominates over the region near the Monolithos village  in southwestern Rhodes. The view from it is breathtaking. Climbing up to the castle is quite short and easy. Inside the castle there are still reservoirs and the dilapidated white chapel of Aghios Panteleimon.
