Archangelos castle

The Castle of Archangelos is built on a natural cliff 216 metres high, 27 km. South of the city of Rhodes, east of Archangelos village near the coast. In the 15th century, it was listed as one of the most powerful castles of Rhodes, which could shelter the population in case of attacks. However, in 1479 it was ordered that the inhabitants of Archangel be transferred for safety reasons to the neighbouring castle Faraklou. In 1503 a second raid of the Turkish fleet against the same village was reported with a partial destruction of the castle. Today it constitutes a monument and it is being restored.
